2000 Kiribati Quintiles

Quintiles divide households into five equal groups based on a wealth index, allowing us to see how living standards differed across Kiribati in 2000. This measure uses household characteristics such as education, occupation, housing, language use, fertility, and access to services like internet or schooling to position households from the lowest 20% to the highest 20%. Comparing across quintiles highlights the contrasts between poorer and wealthier households—whether in educational attainment, employment opportunities, or family conditions—and shows where inequalities were already present at the start of the century. Understanding these patterns provides a baseline for tracking change in later years and for shaping policies to address gaps in well-being. Use the button below to view the tables.
