Introduction

The International Programs Center of the US Census Bureau, and the Office of Insular Affairs of the Department of Interior is pleased to present users with special Cross-Tabulations from Census 2000.

This section of the pacificweb.org contains specially programmed tables from Census 2000- CNMI, Guam, American Samoa, and USVI regarding Social, Economic, and Housing characteristics.  Data were derived from questions asked of the entire population and every housing unit.  We have included links to the questionnaire pages that were used to collect data included in these tables.

These tables provide data compiled from all people in housing units, and are Cross-Tabulations of multiple variables.  The data have been disaggregated by sex, so users will be able to view the information for males, and females.  Population characteristics that have been cross- tabulated include: Age and marital status; Citizenship and Year of Entry; Commuting Characteristics; Ethnic Origin and Race; Household Family and Person's Income in 1999; Households and Family Characteristics; Industry and Class of Worker; Labor Force Characteristics; Language Spoken at Home; Marital Status and Fertility; Occupation; Parents Place of Birth; Place of Birth/ Reason for Migration; Poverty Status and Workers in Family; Residence in 1995; School Enrollment/ Educational Attainment/ Vocational training; Single Year of Age; and Veteran Characteristics.

In accordance with Census Bureau policy these Census 2000 Special Tabulations must be rounded.  The rounding schematic for most tables is: 0 remains 0, 1-7 rounds to 4, 8 or greater rounds to nearest multiple of 5 (i.e., 864 rounds to 865, 982 rounds to 980). Any number that already ends in 5 or 0 stays as is. Additional information on the bureau requirements for special tabulations can be found at: LINK TO DRB for Special Tabulations.

How to find tables

For each area, a table finding guide has been created to assist the user in locating the tables that contain desired data.  The table finding guide lists the tables by population and housing characteristics, and geographic detail.  To determine which tables show data for a particular topic, find the subject in the left hand column of the table finding guide and then look across the columns using the headings at the top for the level of geography, or characteristic of interest.

Definitions of terms used in tables can be found in LINK: Appendix B, definitions of subject characteristics.
